This new report assesses where applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) could be applied at different stages of the development lifecycle of a sustainable rice project. It finds that a range of applications could be relevant both for rice and other project types.
The report also presents the results of one of the applications, applying an AI-powered algorithm to identify rice fields in an area of the Mekong River Delta, Vietnam. It finds that high accuracy can be achieved at a fraction of the effort associated with manual land use classification.
The report has been produced by Mantle Labs, a leading remote sensing and AI technology company. It is part of the programme “Scaling carbon markets access for sustainable rice producers in Vietnam”, implemented by Gold Standard in partnership with the International Rice Research Institute and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade through the Business Partnerships Platform.
