OUR OTHER ACTIVITIES AT COP 22

Workshop: Standards and the Paris Agreement

Friday, November 11: 15:45 – 17:00
Concurrent Experts Roundtable / Participatory Workshop Sessions (III)

Recognizing that the Paris Agreement provides the framework but not the details for implementation of climate action, how will international voluntary standards — such as those promulgated by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO-Geneva) — help identify best practices and policy approaches for mitigation and adaptation? Can an ISO standard on climate finance help mobilize the private sector funds necessary to meet the climate change challenge? How will the ISO voluntary standards development processes coordinate with and complement UNFCCC initiatives? How are voluntary international standards and other “soft law” tools effectively utilized in legal and regulatory regimes? How will voluntary standards help developing countries advance climate action? Or do standards create unintended burdens, such as barriers to trade?
